Lisle Library celebrates anniversary with 'Golden Tickets'

The Lisle Library District has hidden "Golden Tickets" in materials throughout the building to help launch its yearlong Golden Anniversary celebration of 50 years of service to the community.

There are 50 tickets tucked inside adult and teen materials on the lower level, and 50 tickets hidden upstairs in Youth Services materials. Patrons who find the Golden Tickets may turn them in at the Circulation Services Desk for a small prize.

Other anniversary activities include the renaming of a meeting room in honor of the late Albert F. and Marilyn W. Cawiezel, as well as a DuPage Symphony Orchestra performance in memory of Irv Goldstein, the founder of the Friends of the Lisle Library District organization, on Feb. 13.

Back in 1963, members of the Lisle Woman's Club had a dream to see a full-service public library established in the village. In April 1964, their efforts opened a children's library in the basement of 4742 Main St. (the current home of B. Gunther & Company).

The Friends of the Lisle Library group was formed in September 1964 to work for the passage of a referendum proposal to create a tax-supported library and, on Dec. 11, 1965, a referendum proposal was passed that established the Lisle Library District.
