The Elk Grove Village police made two driving under the influence arrests and issued 379 seat belt citations during an increased traffic enforcement during the Christmas and New Year's holiday period, the police department announced Monday.

Officers also made two arrests for drivers with suspended or revoked licenses, and 14 on charges related to the possession of cannabis or drug paraphernalia during the campaign, which took place between Dec. 19 and Jan. 4.

The department issued six citations for child restraint violations, four for uninsured motor vehicle, six for cellphone violations, eight for speeding, 17 for other moving violations and 56 for various equipment, license or registration violations.

A Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Grant, funded through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation Division of Traffic Safety, funded the campaign.
