Hawthorn Woods officers support NYPD

Two Hawthorn Woods cops were among those who traveled to support New York Police Department at the funeral for Officer Wenjian Liu, one of two NYPD officers fatally shot in mid-December as they sat in their patrol car while on duty. Officers Sarah Canada and Ed Armijo decided to use JetBlue's offer to fly two police officers from any department for free to the funeral to support fellow officers in uniform and the family of the slain detective. They were among the thousands of officers present for the national show of police solidarity. The Hawthorn Woods cops flew from Chicago to New York late Saturday and returned Monday morning in time to report for their regular work shifts. They used their own personal funds to pay for hotel accommodations, meals and any other travel expenses.
