Obama truly did bring about change

With his announcement of normalizing U.S. relations with Cuba, President Obama has extended his list of actions which have moved America into new political and social environments. Over his two terms in office he has taken actions which address issues in the health care, environment, social, economic, immigration and foreign relation arenas.

It is another sign of Obama's strong and courageous leadership when he takes action in the face of individuals and institutions of our country who are frozen in indecision and wedded to outmoded positions of the past.

The president's most recent action on Cuban relations begins to rid America of a past position which is no longer relevant to the current situation and needs of the citizens of both America and Cuba. Now it is time for Congress to stop living in the past and end the embargo of Cuba.

The legacy of President Obama will be one of change in many areas of our nation's life. That no matter how much we "kicked" and "screamed," he led us away from the past and took actions to open a new future for America.

There will be no going back in our new understanding of how to recover from recession, to address the health care needs of our citizens, to confirm relations among and between the sexes, to respect those who immigrate into our country and to collaborate with the governments of all the nations of the world.
