Des Plaines-area woman dies after being hit by van

A 38-year-old pedestrian died Friday after she was struck by a minivan near Des Plaines, authorities said Saturday.

The death of Allison Flosi was ruled an accident, the Cook County coroner's office said.

Flosi, who lived just outside Des Plaines, was hit near her home, according to the medical examiner. She was pronounced dead at 10:02 a.m. Friday at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

She died from pulmonary thromboembolism and injuries to her lower extremities, an autopsy Saturday found. Obesity also contributed to her death, the coroner's office said.

Cook County Sheriff's Office representatives did not return messages Saturday night.
