DCFS investigating parents of dead Mount Prospect infant

The state Department of Children and Family Services is investigating claims of neglect in the New Year's Eve death of a 6-month-old Mount Prospect girl, a spokeswoman said Friday.

Illinois child welfare officials have had no prior contact with the family of the girl, DCFS spokeswoman Veronica Resa said. The agency should complete its probe into the allegations against the infant's parents in 60 days, Resa said.

There are no other known children in the home, Resa added.

The girl was pronounced dead on the 1100 block of South Sprucewood Drive at 9:38 a.m. Dec. 31, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. The complete results of an autopsy will take two months.

When contacted on Friday, Mount Prospect police confirmed that the department is actively investigating the case but is not releasing any further details at this time.
