Enjoying winter in Arlington Hts.

Caroline Holum, 11, of Arlington Heights finally got a chance to try out a new pair of pink and white ice skates while visiting the Sunset Meadows Park rink with her dad, Tom, Friday.

Caroline received the skates as a gift more than two years ago, but she said her feet were too small and she had to wait until she grew into them.

Freezing temperatures during this past week gave Caroline and Tom the opportunity to skate outdoors together on the freshly made ice surface.

"She's old school; she loves to get outside and play," Tom said. "I think we got out here around 9 a.m. and she just doesn't want to go."

The rink the Holums were using is one of two ice surfaces at Sunset Meadows Park. One is generally used by casual skaters, while the other is used for hockey.
