Round Lake Beach teen killed in Fox Lake wreck

A Round Lake Beach teen was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Fox Lake Thursday afternoon, and alcohol may have been a factor, coroner's officials say.

The crash happened in the parking lot of Fox Lake Family Restaurant, 56 Route 12, near the corner of Route 12 and North Pistakee Lake Road.

Jesus Lopez, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene, Lake County Chief Coroner Orlando Portillo said. Lopez was the only occupant of the car, he said.

Based on evidence at the scene, Portillo said alcohol may have been involved in the crash "but we're not sure."

"We still have to confirm that through toxicology," Portillo said.

An autopsy may be done Friday, pending initial toxicology results, Portillo said.

Part of Route 12 remained closed throughout much of the afternoon.
