Elgin school, GameStop host Game-athon

In a room normally used to learn networking at Computer Systems Institute in Elgin, students and others were competing Tuesday on different gaming platforms during the first Elgin Game-athon.

GameStop teamed up with the Elgin school as more than 25 people tried their hands at different games to vie for prizes and bragging rights.

“This is awesome, and the competition is great,” said Antonio Tobias, of Rockford. Tobias, a student at the Elgin campus, took the top slot, winning the “Injustice” gaming competition.

The competition, which was open to the public, was described as a way help gamers channel their post-Christmas season excitement.

Zachery Parson, 15, of Batavia, was smiling and enjoying himself the entire time as he tried playing PlayStation. “I never really played PlayStation,” he admitted.

Local gamers had the opportunity to compete at three different game stations to win a variety of prizes, all supplied by GameStop.
