Sports salary shows priorities are off

With the recent passing of my friend, Fred Potter, who was a regular contributor to Your Views, I felt I needed, in his memory, to comment on two stories that were in the Daily Herald in the past couple of weeks. The first concerned the acquisition of Jon Lester by the Cubs. His salary is going to be $155 million over six years.

Are you kidding me? Jon plays about 33 games a year. That means at the very most he will be playing in 200 games between now and 2020. He will be making $775,000 a game! What makes that even more staggering, in his nine professional seasons, Jon has completed only 11 games.

With that thought in mind, the Daily Herald's daily winner for Believe Project recently received $100 after having lost their family home in a fire. That's $155 million for Jon Lester, $100 for a mother and her three children. Our priorities are way out of line.
