A White Christmas gift from our staff

Daily Herald DuPage County staff shares images of them in the snow from Christmas years past

It may have been all that eggnog, but we went to sleep last night with visions of sugar plums dancing in our heads.

And we think we heard the sound of eight tiny reindeer — or was it nine? — pitter-pattering across our rooftop, but we can't be sure.

The really weird part, though, was this song that kept running through our heads. Was it Santa singing or was it Bing Crosby? (Please tell us it wasn't Michael Buble!) Hard to tell on Christmas Eve amid all the racket of elves loading and unloading a sleigh, but it was something about dreaming of a white Christmas, just like the ones we used to know.

Honestly, we've got to start laying off those candy canes so late at night.

In any case, when we woke this morning we were smiling because whether our lawns were a dull brown or covered with a fresh coat of white didn't really matter. What mattered is that we could share the season with the folks we love and with our readers.

As our Christmas gift to you (color us thrifty), we thought we'd share some images of us in the snow — some more recent than others.

We hope you enjoy them and, of course, we wish you the best of all holiday seasons and a joyous new year.

And, most of all, may all your Christmases be any color you like.
