Doroskin, Blackwell pace a Schaumburg victory
Schaumburg's girls basketball team recovered smartly from an opening-round loss in the Wheaton North tournament to defeat Willowbrook 47-30 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Saxons held a 1-point lead at the break but gradually pulled away in the second half outscoring the Warriors 29-13.
Schaumburg's defense limited Willowbrook to 1 free throw in the third quarter.
Leading the charge for the Saxons were Tatiana Doroskin (18 points, 6 rebounds) and Jada Blackwell (14 points, 7 rebounds).
Brittany Reinhart pulled down a team-high 8 rebounds and handed out 6 assists for the Saxons who improved to 5-7.
They will face Wheaton North at 1:30 p.m. on Friday when the tourney resumes.
Elk Grove 48, Elgin 29: Elk Grove won its first game in consolation play of the Wheaton North tourney as Southeast Missouri State recruit Amber Lindfors scored a game-high 18 points along with 15 rebounds.
Teammate O'Rayn Macavoy was also a force on the boards, grabbing 10 rebounds to go along with her 8 points.
Carly Crothers chipped in 8 points for the Grens while Alex Masnica handed out 3 assists with 2 rebounds.
The Grens (4-7) will face West Aurora at noon on Friday.
Hoffman Estates 47, Champaign Central 24: Freshmen Tayler Williams (14 points) and sophomore Monraia Wilson (10) led the Hawks (3-9) at the Mundelein Holiday tournament. Senior Mary Saitta had a pair of 3-pointers for the Hawks to finish with 6 points.
Maine East 47, St. Viator 35: The Lions (4-8) fell to 1-1 in their own Tom and Megan Blenner Holiday Invitational in Arlington Heights.
Senior Molly Murphy led the Lions with 9 points while freshmen Grace McNamara and Myia Clark each chipped in 7. Senior Kayne Stanley and Murphy each had 6 rebounds while Stanley led the Lions with 3 assists,
Leyden 50, Elwood Park 36: The Eagles (5-7) evened their record to 1-1 in the Tom and Megan Blenner Holiday Invitational in Arlington Heights.
The Eagles were led by Alondra Chavarria's game-high 25 points. Gianna Grande chipped in 8.
