Believe Project: $100 to help out-of-work neighbor caring for loved one

Today's winner of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Karen Noxon of Lindenhurst.

Here is an excerpt of her pitch:

"If I was lucky enough to win the $100 I would give it to my neighbor David. He has been out of work for the past five-plus years. David and his mother live a few doors from me. The mother had a stroke in July. She was in rehab until insurance ran out. They cannot afford a nursing home because of their finances. The stroke affected the entire left side and she is left-handed. David does all of her care. She is in a hospital bed in the living room. The mother had a second stroke about three weeks ago. It's a sad situation. They have no family in the area. Before the strokes I would include them in our family holidays. The money would boost their spirits as well as help them moneywise. I will be praying I am lucky enough to win."

• The Believe Project is awarding $100 each day in December to a different person with a good idea for how to use $100 to do a good deed for someone else. Email us your pitch of 100 words or fewer (include your name, address and hometown) to specialevents@dailyherald.com.
