Women's self-defense class:

The Hawthorn Woods Police Department is hosting a women's self-defense program on from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 4-25, at the Village Barn. This interactive program will provide training in recognizing and responding to dangerous situations, and techniques for successfully defending against and escaping the types of attacks most often encountered by women. The series of four classes offers an opportunity to learn physical skills and techniques to defend against attacks while maintaining a fun and positive environment. You will learn how projecting confidence through body language can make you less of a target. This class is for women 17 and older, including those who are headed to college, or who live or travel alone. Instruction is by the Hawthorn Woods Police Department, and the cost is $10 for residents and $15 for nonresidents.
