Raanta continues Blackhawks' strong net play

The Blackhawks' assembly line of goaltenders just continues to roll along.

It seems like whomever Joel Quenneville puts between the pipes turns in a solid performance.

On Sunday night, it was Antti Raanta's turn, and the 25-year-old responded by stopping all 31 shots he faced for his second shutout of the season.

"Every single game he's been in the net he's done everything he could to enhance his positioning here," Quenneville said. "Organizationally, we couldn't be happier with the options.

"You have three goalies all year long, game in and game out, that have been very consistent, giving us a chance to win. Our goaltending all year has been outstanding - no matter who has been in the net."

Interesting idea:

After suffering through a slew of turnovers in the offensive zone Saturday in a loss at home against Philadelphia, Toronto Maple Leafs coach Randy Carlyle wants to put some numbers behind what he witnessed.

"We tried to be too cute in critical areas (against Philly)," he said before Sunday's game against the Hawks. "At one point, we had 6 turnovers at the offensive blue line.

"And for our analytics inside - I know you guys like to talk about analytics - it's such an important part of today's game … I think that we're going to create an analytic stat that every time we turn the puck over at the offensive blue line, how much longer do we play in the defensive zone?

"It's an interesting stat. And we're going to be hard and fast with our players to show them what's happening when we do that."

He said it:

"He was part of our team. He might as well have been wearing one of these sweaters. He was a special dude, for sure."
