Believe Project: $100 to help out new widow during the holidays

Today's winner of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Kathy Mondala of Schaumburg.

Here is an excerpt of her pitch:

"Recently my son's best friend was killed in a head-on car accident after leaving his night manager job at Mariano's in Hoffman Estates. He left a wife and two small children.

"His wife must now put one of the children in day care since the dad watched the child during the day while she went to work. Without the father, money is very tight for this family, especially during this holiday season. I would really appreciate being able to help them by forwarding your gift to this family."

• The Believe Project is awarding $100 each day in December to a different person with a good idea for how to use $100 to do a good deed for someone else. Email us your pitch of 100 words or fewer (include your name, address and hometown) to specialevents@dailyherald.com.
