Hoffman Estates teen pleads guilty to damaging mailboxes

A Hoffman Estates teen who police say smashed dozens of Schaumburg mailboxes last September pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charges on Thursday, according to court records.

Eric A. Beck, 18, pleaded guilty to criminal damage to property and was sentenced to 12 months of supervision, court records show.

Additionally, court records show Cook County Judge Kay Hanlon ordered Beck to perform 40 hours of community service.

Police say Beck and a 17-year-old, whose name the Daily Herald is not printing because he was charged as a juvenile, used a pipe to smash residential mailboxes while driving through Schaumburg's Kingsport subdivision about 1 p.m. on Sept. 8.
