Believe Project: $100 to help a boy who lost a leg in train accident

Today's winner of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Barbara Lightner of Arlington Heights. Here is some of her pitch:

"I'd give $100 to the family of Alex Zepeda, an 11-year-old boy who lost his leg in a train accident. His family has been struggling for some time. After reading how Alex was cheered when a cousin brought him a toy, I sent him books and a toy. It would be so nice to give them something more. The family can't afford to buy things to cheer and keep Alex occupied in the hospital. The $100 won't go far, but it will express caring, kindness and public support for a family whose lives have changed drastically in a moment."

• The Believe Project is awarding $100 each day in December to a different person with a good idea for how to use $100 to do a good deed for someone else. Email us your pitch of 100 words or fewer (include your name and address) to specialevents@dailyherald.com.
