Chicago man charged in downtown bank robbery

CHICAGO - A Chicago man suspected in two bank robberies is facing federal charges in one of the alleged heists.

The FBI says 52-year-old Reginald Deberry was arrested by Chicago police on Wednesday, minutes after a robbery at a downtown Fifth Third Bank branch.

A criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court on Thursday alleges that Deberry demanded money from a teller, who gave it to him along with a dye pack. It says Deberry was arrested near the bank minutes later when officers noticed red paint on his hands.

He appeared in federal court Thursday and remains in custody.

The FBI says Deberry is suspected in a Dec. 5 robbery of another bank, but has not been charged in that case.

It was not immediately clear if Deberry had an attorney.
