Lake County Stallions enjoy success at state championship

The Lake County Stallions recently sent seven youth (kindergarten through eighth grade) cheer teams to the Illinois Recreational Cheerleading Association's Seventh Annual State Championship, which took place at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates.

The IRCA is made up of 100 cheer programs from around the state of Illinois. There are approximately 1,000 youth cheer and dance teams involved in the IRCA from those programs.

The weekend was the most successful state event in Stallions cheer history. They had four first-place IRCA State Champions: kindergarten, first grade and second grade, coached by Heather Bonds; third grade coached by Joanne Terrell; fourth grade coached by Cindy Grinde; and eighth grade coached by Tami Forman.

The Stallions also had one second-place team: sixth grade, coached by Kim Burchill; one third-place team: fourth grade, coached by Amy Guin; and one fourth-place team: seventh grade, coached by Kasie Morrison.

The Lake County Stallions were created more than 50 years ago as a youth cheer and football program and now also includes youth lacrosse, based out of Mundelein.

The program currently includes children from Mundelein, Round Lake, Grayslake, Vernon Hills, Lake Zurich, Libertyville, Long Grove, Hawthorn Woods and Wauconda.

In the 2014 season, the program included nearly 200 cheerleaders and 200 football players in kindergarten through eighth grade. For information, email Tami Forman at tami.forman@hotmail.com.
