Teen leads book drive for Hanover Park center

Northern Illinois Scholarship Program Social Ambassador Queen 2015 Arielle Christopher, age 15, of Streamwood, partnered with Barnes & Noble Bookstore to host a holiday book drive for the Hanover Township Astor Avenue Community Center at 7431 Astor Avenue, Hanover Park, on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

"When I saw Miss Imperato open the first box of books, I was so happy," said Christopher. "I was happy because I knew the books were going to children in need, who didn't have books like these at home."

Christopher hosted the holiday book drive to find books to support the reading area located in the Hanover Township Astor Avenue Community Center. The book donation will benefit children in need and help them learn to read and improve their school grades.

"We really do appreciate these books," said Mary Jo Imperato, Hanover Township director of Welfare Services. "Literacy is a great cause. These books will help the children who come here, learn to read, and will one day help them to get a job."

Barnes & Noble Bookstore in Schaumburg, was the sponsor of the books. Jeffrey Kiel, Schaumburg Barnes & Noble bookstore store manager, provided 189 books in two large boxes that were donated by customers and booksellers.
