Presto! Holiday Concert Dec. 20 in Schaumburg

Candlelit trees, Shirley Temple, Lionel trains, bubble lights … and beautiful music of the season.

The award-winning Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra celebrates the holidays of yesteryear with "Auld Lang Syne," its 15th annual Presto! Holiday Concert at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, at the Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court, in Schaumburg.

Orchestral favorites, including "Sleigh Ride," selections from "The Nutcracker," and music of Mozart, Rimsky-Korsakov and others are performed by the 75-member symphony. Guest artists include the Schaumburg Youth Choir, performing medleys with the orchestra along with unaccompanied works.

Of course, holiday music never fails to bring out warm memories, and there's plenty of nostalgia offered in video-recorded segments between the musical pieces as residents of Friendship Village retirement community and seniors at the Schaumburg Barn share their recollections of Santa Claus, visits to grandmother's house and other Yuletide adventures.

Tickets for Presto! Holiday Concert are $24; $15 for seniors and students, and can be ordered online at www.prairiecenter.org or by calling (847) 895-3600.
