Collins School Girl Scouts collect books for Early Learning Center

Girl Scout troops from Michael Collins Elementary School, Schaumburg, collected books, crayons, scissors and puzzles from the community for the new District 54 Early Learning Center which opened this year.

The preschool's principal Sue Mayernick commemorated the Girl Scouts on Wednesday, Dec. 17, for the book drive's success in collecting nearly 3,000 books for the school. The new facility opened this school year and serves children ages 3-5, 331 special education students and 450 at-risk students.

Schaumburg Mayor Al Larson and Hoffman Estates Mayor Bill McLeod praised the troops for their hard work, and Larson presented the Scouts with a Great Citizen Award for their effort and determination in helping the community.
