GOP is sidestepping what Americans want

Has anyone noticed that all Republicans use the exact same phrases when criticizing President Obama as if they were reading from a script written by Fox News? A phrase used in every Republican speech is "the American people want ..."

One item that American people want is comprehensive immigration reform. Last session, the Senate passed such a bill 68-32 in a vote that included 14 Republican senators. The bill was sent to the House where an informal poll showed that it would easily pass, but Speaker John Boehner never brought the bill to the floor for a vote. Now, with a record Republican majority in the House, there is virtually no hope for passage in the next two years.

The speaker and the new Senate majority leader warn that President Obama's executive order on immigration destroyed any cooperation with the Republican Congress, the same group that has instituted a lawsuit against the president and threatens impeachment. Are they referring to the "cooperation" the Republicans have shown in the past six years.

What the public doesn't want is a proposed 8th House investigation of Benghazi even through the final report written after seven fruitless witch hunts completely exonerated the president and the State Department. What the public does not want is a 53rd House vote to overturn the Affordable Care Act, which has benefited millions of previously uninsured Americans. After almost six years, Republicans have yet to present their plan.

When are we going to see legislation presented by Republicans that address the issues that are really "what Americans want"?
