Diversity showcased during Pre-Kwanzaa Celebration in Elgin

Beauty Unique and Juanita Crears Events will sponsor the inaugural Pre-Kwanzaa Celebration to showcase the Fox Valley's cultural diversity and its unity Saturday, Dec. 20, in downtown Elgin.

Festivities start at noon and run until 9 p.m. on the eighth floor of 164 Division St. For 6½ hours, people who attend the free event will have an opportunity to learn more about financial planning, peace and happiness during the holidays and the entire year, and enhancing their image and well-being.

The story of the history of Kwanzaa will be told at noon and 6:30 p.m. The Happy People Seminar will begin at 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. A fashion and hair show will begin at 3 p.m. The financial seminar will begin an hour later. The Diva Dancers will perform at 5 p.m., and line dancing will begin at 8 p.m.

A variety of vendors will sell unique holiday gifts while dancers, singers and other entertainers will help revelers usher in the holiday spirit. Refreshments with a cultural twist and flavor will be served.

Doors open for shopping at 10 a.m. and will remain open until 9 p.m. All residents are invited to participate.
