Lake County Sheriff's detective receives Excellence Award

Submitted by the Lake County Sheriff's Office

On Wednesday, Dec. 10, the Illinois Operation Lifesaver Enforcement Committee presented Detective Ann Schiltz the Achievement of Excellence Award.

The award was presented at the year-end Meeting and Awards Ceremony held at the Elmhurst Village Hall, 209 N. York Road in Elmhurst.

In late 2013, Detective Schiltz assisted investigators of the Canadian National Railroad and Metra in a death investigation in unincorporated Lake County. While Schiltz's highly-skilled and thorough investigative performance was recognized at the award's ceremony, Special Agent Eric Graf with the Canadian National Railroad stated, "Beyond Detective Schiltz's professionalism … what impressed me the most was that it was apparent she really cared. She cared about the deceased and the family … she cared about the railroad employees … and she cared about the truth … caring is something that cannot be taught."

Operation Lifesaver's mission is to end collisions, deaths and injuries at highway-rail grade crossings and on rail property through a nationwide network of volunteers who work to educate the public about rail safety.
