Barrington pledges holiday drunken driving crackdown

Starting Friday, Barrington police officers will be out in force as part of the statewide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign cracking down on drunk drivers, the police department announced Tuesday.

Barrington Police Chief Dave Dorn said in a news release that officers will be looking for impaired drivers during the crackdown and will arrest anyone caught driving drunk.

"You'll see us out there during this highly visible enforcement period," Dorn said. "Drunk drivers will be arrested and those not observing seat belt laws will be ticketed,"

The enforcement period will run from Friday, Dec. 19 through Jan. 4.

The law enforcement crackdown is paid for by federal traffic safety funds awarded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
