$200,000 damage to St. Charles Twp. home

No one was injured in a fire caused extensive damage Tuesday to a house at 6N021 Oak Run Court in St. Charles Township, according to the Fox River and Countryside Fire/Rescue District.

The blaze caused $200,000 in damage to the house, its contents, and to one of three cars parked on the driveway, according to Chief Greg Benson.

The fire was reported at 12:54 a.m., and when firefighters arrived the fire was burning in the garage and in the living space and attic space above the garage. The home also sustained a partial roof collapse.

Benson said firefighters were challenged by the presence of several dormers and void spaces in the second floor, and that it was difficult to place fire equipment on the "narrow, dead-end" street. The neighborhood does not have fire hydrants.

Benson also reported the availability of mutual aid from other departments was limited due to a fire being fought in South Elgin.

According to St. Charles Township Assessor's records, the two-story brick home was built in 1989 and has a fair market value of $628,140.

The cause and origin of the fire hasn't been determined.
