Streamwood man pleads guilty to baseball bat attack

One of two men charged with beating an 18-year-old Hanover Park man and breaking his arm last August has pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years in prison.

Humberto Fernandez, 20, of Streamwood, pleaded guilty last week to aggravated battery with a weapon, according to court records.

His co-defendant, 20-year-old Justin Risher, also of Streamwood, will have a bench trial before Cook County Judge Thomas Fecarotta next month, court records show.

According to police, the teen said he was walking south on West Avenue in Hanover Park when a green Cadillac with four men approached him and the men began talking. Fernandez and Risher exited the car and swung at the teen with a baseball bat and metal pipe respectively, police said.

The teenager escaped. Police located him on the 2200 block of Walnut Avenue after receiving a report about a man being chased by another man carrying a baseball bat.
