Gurnee cops special enforcement:

Gurnee police will begin a special traffic enforcement campaign Friday, Dec. 19. Police announced Monday the effort will go through Sunday, Jan. 4. Funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Transportation Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the additional 48 hours of enforcement actions across the village will be focused to remove drunk and drugged drivers from the roadways, increase safety belt and child restraint device use, and to curb speeding motorists. Police Chief Kevin Woodside said he encourages the use of designated drivers for the holiday season.
