Two men charged in Palatine car burglaries

Two men have been arrested in connection with a string of car burglaries in Palatine, police said.

Danylo Anufriiev, 21, of Arlington Heights was charged with four counts of felony burglary and Astamur Gumba, 19, of Buffalo Grove was charged with one count of misdemeanor possession of stolen property.

Police tracked the two men on Friday morning shortly before 4 a.m. after a Palatine resident called 911 and said she observed a suspicious person walking in her driveway in the neighborhood near Peppertree and Dundee roads, according to a news release.

The woman told police that the man had run westbound through the neighborhood and appeared to be dropping items on the ground. Police found items including a cellphone, camera and charger on the ground where the man had been running.

While searching the area, police found Anufriiev walking between buildings in the strip mall at Smith and Dundee roads and found Gumba sitting in a parked car at Eagle Park, south of Oak and Dundee roads in the same neighborhood. Police found more items, including a radar detector and GPS in the car, according to the release.

Further investigation found that the items had been stolen out of unoccupied parked cars in the neighborhood.

Gumba was released after posting 10 percent of $1,500 bond and Anufriiev was scheduled to appear in bond court on Saturday.
