Post office doing the best it can

This is to comment on a submission from Joan Gordon of Hoffman Estates that was published in the Daily Herald Dec. 4.

In her comment, she talked about leaving packages. I am recently retired of 33 years working for the post office in Arlington Heights. First we are instructed to leave all packages unless it is deemed to be not secure like an apartment complex. Second with the express she said that delivery time was 3 p.m. but it was there when she got it at 12:45 p.m. All express even those saying 3 p.m. are to be delivered by 12 p.m. Now all express are to be delivered unless signed by the party sending it.

Now you can have your neighbor get it and bring it in if they are home all the time.

We in the postal service know that this is going on and we have so many packages to deliver this time of year, that unless otherwise instructed we are to leave. I am sure you do not want to go down to the local office and stand in line for every package that you will be getting this year. So this is the only way we can accommodate all of you who are shopping on line and having them sent to your house. I have had customers send them to wHere they worked so as not to have them sitting at their houses while they work.

Just wanted to get this out so as I stand by the post office as they are doing the best that they can to accommodate your needs.
