Kromer admits his mistake, and Cutler accepts it

Just as he did Monday in front of the offense, Bears offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer addressed the media on Friday and took the blame for his public criticism of quarterback Jay Cutler.

Kromer's comments about his frustration over Cutler's game management in the loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day became the fodder for an NFL.com story that also implied that the Bears had buyer's remorse after signing Cutler to a $126.7 million, seven-year contract after last season.

"I just want to say I made a very poor decision in talking about things outside the building, and I admit that and can't take that back," Kromer said. "I recognize that I made a mistake, and when I did I instantly went right to the offensive unit and apologized to the offense as well as apologized to Jay in front of the offense that he was singled out in the situation.

"I wish I wouldn't have made that mistake, and it's happened, and we're a group and a unit, and we worked it out together and the rest will be handled internally, and we'll work through that."

Cutler did his best to downplay the awkward situation.

Asked to characterize his relationship with Kromer in light of recent developments, Cutler said: "Good. Obviously we all know what happened. There's been a lot of talk and buzz about it today. We've all made mistakes. I think everyone in this room can testify to that.

"I've said things out of character and things I wish I could take back, and that's what happened here. He apologized to us on Monday and in my room (the quarterbacks) and in the offensive room it's a dead issue."
