Annual Dundee Lions basketball tournament starts Saturday

The annual Dundee Lions Boys Middle School Basketball Tournament starts this Saturday, Dec. 13, at Westfield Community School in Algonquin.

Two games will be played throughout the morning starting at 8 a.m. and the second game at 9:15 a.m.

"What a bargain for family entertainment," said Gene Tester, chairman of the event. Four dollars buys an adult ticket and $2 for children. Tickets are good for the whole tournament including semifinals and finals next week.

"Who knows maybe you will see the next Kobe, D. Rose or Michael Jordan? At the least, you will see youth giving it 100 percent and experiencing the thrill of victory," Tester stated.

Participating schools are: Algonquin Middle School, Carpentersville Middle School, Dundee Middle School, Hampshire Middle School, and Westfield Community School.

At 8 a.m. Saturday are eighth-grade teams Dundee Middle vs. Algonquin Middle. At 9:15 a.m. are seventh-grade teams Carpentersville Middle playing Algonquin Middle School.

Other games will be Monday at Hampshire Middle School, Tuesday at Dundee Middle School and Thursday finals will be played at Algonquin Middle School.

Refreshments for a modest charge will be provided by the Lions at all games. In addition there will be a 50/50 raffle. All proceeds will be utilized to pay for the tournament and support other community charities.
