Warren Township High School board member Liz Biondi said last week she hopes the district does not hire someone who is gay to replace retiring Superintendent Mary Perry Bates. Gene & Georgetti picks Rosemont for first expansion

Chicago's oldest family-run steakhouse announced plans and the location for its first expansion: Rosemont. The yet-to-be named restaurant will go in at 9421 W. Higgins Road, which is the existing Rosewood restaurant and banquet hall. Rosewood is expected to close by early January upon the retirement of owner Jim Mandas. Full story.

New Kane panel leader not sold on Settler's Hill cross country track

The new chairman of Kane County's development committee says he plans to spend no further money on the idea of putting a cross country facility at the former Settler's Hill landfill - if projections show that it can't make money. Kurt Kojzarek says he's not sold on the current projections that came from a $200,000 engineering study. Full story.

Walgreens CEO announces his retirement

Walgreens announced yesterday that Greg Wasson, president and chief executive officer, informed the company's board of directors that he will retire shortly after the company completes its merger with health and beauty retailer Alliance Boots. Shareholders of the Deerfield-based company are scheduled to vote on Alliance Boots transaction Dec. 29. Full story.

Ex-DuPage state's attorney reflects on Topinka fondly

As a running mate to Judy Baar Topinka in the 2006 gubernatorial election, Joe Birkett said yesterday he enjoyed every minute of the experience, getting to know Topinka as a hardworking, straight-talking public servant. Topinka died early Wednesday morning. Full story.

Donors help all-girls robotics team at Elk Grove

Traffic

Resurfacing work will cause restrictions on Route 134 in both directions between US Route 12 in Fox Lake and Route 120 in Grayslake. The construction is expected to last until May 15th. Full traffic.

Bulls rediscover defense

The Chicago Bulls beat the Nets last night 105-80 at the United Center. After a slow start to the first half, the Bulls trailed by 11 in the first quarter and tied it up 51-51 at the half. In the second half, the Nets scored just 39 points. Full story.
