Sheriff warns of phone scams

Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran wants to make residents aware that his office is not associated with a telephone solicitation campaign. Many residents in recent days have reported receiving telephone calls from individuals soliciting funds for the Lake County Sheriff's Office Fraternal Order of Police. Curran said the organization is in no way affiliated with the Lake County Sheriff's Office. Any attempt made to solicit funds via telephone, mail or in person by anyone identifying themselves as a representative of the Lake County Sheriff's Office should not be considered legitimate, authorities said. This appears to be one of several telephone scams using the name of the Lake County Sheriff's Office in an attempt to gain access to the financial information of unsuspecting victims, Curran said.
