Tree of Life Holiday Choir Concert explores 'Winter's Wonder'

On Sunday, Dec. 21, the Adult Choir will present its annual Holiday Concert at 10:45 a.m. at Tree of Life Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 5603 Bull Valley Road in McHenry.

At this year's concert, "Winter's Wonder," the choir will perform holiday music from the Christian and Jewish traditions, as well as a few secular favorites.

More than 20 voices strong, this a cappella choir under the direction of Thomas Steffens, who also arranges much of the music, has impressed McHenry County audiences at the recent Voices in Harmony concert at the Raue Center in Crystal Lake and other venues. It features strong soloists who have performed on the Woodstock Opera House stage and in area clubs and music circles.

A string quartet will join the choir for this performance.

The varied program includes selections like the traditional Appalachian carol "I Wonder as I Wander," a Hebrew "Haleluhu," Tom Paxton's whimsical "The Marvelous Toy," beloved carols like "Silent Night," and the seasonal classic "Winter Wonderland."

The program is free and open to the public. A free will offering will be taken.
