Glenview Blades earn high marks in Wisconsin competition

The Glenview Blades, a group of synchronized skating teams based at the Glenview Ice Center, 1851 Landwehr Road, recently participated in the Pleasant Prairie competition held on the shores of Lake Andrea in Prairie Springs Park in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.

The Open Juvenile synchronized skating team was awarded first place for their presentation of the movie "Rio."

The team is coached by Maria Scianna and Rebecca Menzynski. The skaters are Paige Arvanitis, Peyton Bond, Meghan Blomberg, Gabriela Fuja, Katherine Hinrichs, Caroline Kozaczka, Laura Leifke, Julia Niklewicz, Karin Olson, Caroline Pratt, Lilly Rossi, Kate Shargo, Lily Smith, Marla Tamul and Eileen Wolff.

The Beginner One synchronized skating team shook the crowd as they glided on ice to the "Dinosaur" performance, landing them first place. This team is coached by Beth Krejnik and Maria Scianna. Team members are Skylar Adler, Alina Bergquist, Mackenzie Bill, Madeline Eccleston, Ines Galiano, Taylor Kolssak, Amanda Lee, Lauren Lee, Francesca Noordover, Maggie Parsons, Dana Thurnell.

In addition, the Preliminary synchronized skating team was awarded second place for their presentation of "The Lion King." This team is coached by Bethany McHugh and Rebecca Menzynski. Skaters are Giuliana Aiello, Rachel Buchanan, Natalie Duncan, Munkhnaran Dechinmijiddorj, Alejandra Galarza, Courtney Hvostik, Alyssa Hjelmgren, Zoe Kaiser, Colleen Paisley, Savanna Paisley, Jacy Robbins, Delaney Rossi and Chloe Schmidt.

On Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 9-10, the Blades teams will compete in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. The competition schedule will then take them to Synchro Illinois in Homewood Flossmoor; Skokie in January; The Freeze Competition at the Glenview Ice Center Feb. 20-21; and Highland Park and Hoffman Estates in March.

There will be an opportunity to see the Glenview Blades teams at the Holiday Exhibition from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19. This exhibition will feature soloists and class skaters from the skate school.
