Ex-Red light camera company worker admits bribery

A former employee of one of the nation's largest red-light camera programs has pleaded guilty in federal court to passing bribe money to a Chicago city worker.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that 73-year-old Martin O'Malley of Worth entered the plea Wednesday. O'Malley is a former company liaison for Phoenix-based Redflex Traffic Systems Inc. He was accused of funneling cash and perks to former Chicago city official John Bills, who is charged with bribery in the case. Former Redflex CEO Karen Finley also is charged in the scandal.

O'Malley has agreed to cooperate with prosecutors against Finley and Bills.

Both Bills and Finley deny the charges.

Chicago awarded its first contract to Redflex in 2003. Mayor Rahm Emanuel canceled the firm's contract last year.
