Uber removes driver accused of Chicago sex assault

Uber says it has removed a driver following a reported sexual assault in Chicago last month.

Uber spokeswoman Jennifer Mullin says the ride-booking company is cooperating with police in an investigation of what she called "an appalling and unacceptable incident." She says Uber is "ready to assist them however we can to hold the perpetrator accountable."

The allegation from a police report was first made public Tuesday by the news website DNAinfo, which reported a woman told police an Uber driver picked her up at a bar and attacked her. She told police she blacked out but remembered being in an apartment with the driver on top of her.

Chicago police spokesman Jose Estrada said police have been in contact with the victim and Uber and are continuing to investigate.
