Gurnee safety enforcement results:

Gurnee police have announced results from a recent campaign for stepped up traffic enforcement. Police said the effort, which ran from Nov. 17-30, focused on impaired driving and seat belt enforcement activities throughout the village. Funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Transportation Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, authorities said the campaign was designed to make the roads safer. Police made one alcohol-related arrest, issued 19 safety belt citations and wrote nine speeding tickets. Officials said five officers stopped 43 vehicles during 11 deployments for the crackdown from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
