Emanuel rips Quinn for ex-aide's appointment
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is criticizing Gov. Pat Quinn for helping his former campaign manager get a job running the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority just weeks before the governor finishes his term.
Lou Bertuca was hired Monday by the agency's board on a 4-3 vote. Quinn's four board appointees backed Bertuca, while Emanuel's three appointees voted "no." The 30-year-old Bertuca has a two-year contract making $160,000 annually.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported Emanuel said Wednesday "political respect" demanded the job remain open until Gov.-elect Bruce Rauner takes over.
Emanuel says the job requires financial expertise and he's concerned Chicago taxpayers will be on the hook if there are problems at the authority, which manages U.S. Cellular Field.
Board chairman Emil Jones Jr. says Bertuca is a "smart, effective leader."
