Wines to Help Make The Season Bright

For the past 35 years Lynfred Winery in Roselle has been warming up the holiday season with its spiced Christmas wines. The tradition was started by Lynfred founder Fred Koehler. Koehler's family came to the Chicago area from Germany around the turn of the 19th century. In their homeland of Germany his winemaking family used to make warmed, spiced wines in the winter months to keep warm on frosty evenings. When he decided to open his winery in Roselle in 1979 he knew he wanted to carry on the family tradition with his own versions of mulled wines.

35 years later, Lynfred Winery's Chilean winemaking team of Andres Basso and Rodrigo Gonzalez, carry on Fred's vision and legacy with the Christmas Red, Christmas White and Glogg wines.

Christmas Red wine is red wine steeped with cinnamon, orange and lemon peel, clove, allspice and nutmeg while the Christmas White features cardamom, cinnamon, oranges and clove. Lynfred also features a Glogg wine that is fortified with Port wine, and quite frankly, even better than grandma's homemade Glogg! The Lynfred mulled wines are easy to serve; open the bottle, simmer the wine in a pan or crock pot and serve (did we mention how delicious the house will smell?).

The Lynfred Christmas ($10) and Glogg ($12) Wines are available at Lynfred Winery in Roselle. The winery is on extended holiday hours and is open daily from 9 am to 9 pm through December 23rd.
