3 dead in crash after vehicle strikes, kills bear

MIAMI - Police say a motorist's vehicle struck and killed a black bear on a road in the Florida Everglades and three people who had gone to the woman's aid where then struck and killed by another vehicle. He says several others were injured in the three-vehicle accident.

Seminole Police Department spokesman Gary Bitner told The Associated Press a total of 13 people were in all three vehicles involved in events starting with the vehicle-bear crash on the Big Cypress Seminole Reservation in Everglades territory.

"We've never had an accident involving a black bear," Bitner said, adding four were injured severely enough to be taken by helicopter to a hospital. Four others were taken by ambulances, he says, and the woman who hit the bear and one other were uninjured.
