Let's stop letting money determine elections

The Daily Herald article "5 reasons why Rauner won" by Mike Riopell has some good reasoning, but the only thing that needs to be on that list is money. That is all that the elections are coming to these days, and that is the only reason certain candidates win the elections.

With this past midterm election it is clear to see the vast disparities in money spent between candidates and how that correlates to a win. The more a candidate can spend, the further ahead he or she can move in the polls and the more that money can drown out the voice of the voter.

This is only because of the fact that they are getting these major contributions from these special interests. This is because mega-donors and super PACs are allowed to donate as much money as they want to any candidate. These large donations from these special interests are influencing both the outcomes of elections and the officials they put into office.

We need to be able to enact something that allows for the voters to have an equal or stronger voice than these special interests. This way, after the elections we will know they won because that is what the people wanted, not the money.
