Holiday programming at Prairie Center

The Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts offers wonderful holiday programming featuring top-notch entertainers, affordable ticket prices and free parking in an intimate setting with exceptional sightlines and outstanding acoustics.

The Prairie Center's holiday season includes The Schaumburg Dance Ensemble's 20th annual production of "The Nutcracker."

A company of professional dancers leads a large cast in this narrated performance of Tchaikovsky's magical ballet, following the dreamlike adventures of a young girl who, with the help of an enchanting toymaker, encounters leaping Russians, waltzing flowers and twirling snowflake maidens.

Performances, complete with grand sets and vibrant costumes, began last weekend and continue this weekend with matinee and evening times listed at www.prairiecenter.org.

Tickets are $26 ($18 seniors and students).

The program is sponsored by Schaumburg Bank & Trust, Motorola Solutions Foundation and the Prairie Center Arts Foundation.

On Saturday, Dec. 20, enjoy the Presto! Holiday Concert.

Performances will be at 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and will feature classical and popular music of the season performed by the award-winning Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Joseph Malmquist.

The program includes music of Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Mozart, Wagner, along with popular carols.

Joining the orchestra is the new Schaumburg Youth Choir. This year's concert, titled "Auld Lang Syne," features videotaped interviews of area residents recalling their fondest yuletide memories.

Tickets are $24 ($15 seniors and students).

This program is sponsored by Motorola Solutions Foundation, Links Technology Solutions and the Prairie Center Arts Foundation.

Tickets can be ordered at www.prairiecenter.org, or (847) 895-3600.
