Mundelein artist said his journey in working with glass never ends

Artist Peter Patterson has been working with hot glass for more than 34 years and says he's still amazed at the mysteries it has to offer.

Patterson, who is showing off his works of art during a series of open house events in December at his Patterson Glass studio at 888 Tower Road in Mundelein, said his journey into glass never ends.

"I constantly challenge myself, especially with new techniques and processes. This can be seen in all the different series of glass I have to offer," he said.

"Much of my inspiration for my different series comes from a variety of things, including life experiences, scuba diving, graphic design and nature itself. I put these fluid motions of the water along with organic shapes derived from nature into my glass creations."

Patterson said he likes to think of each of his pieces as an illustration. He also feels glass can create emotions in people.

The next open house events are scheduled for Dec. 12-14 and Dec. 19-21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
