Winter Wonderland returns to Des Plaines this weekend

Winter Wonderland, Des Plaines' annual two-day free family festival, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 6-7, at the Frisbie Senior Center, 52 E. Northwest Hwy.

The fest features free pictures with Santa, entertainment, kids' crafts, kids' bingo, face painting, balloon artist, a holiday bazaar, story time, food, cocoa, model train displays and walk-around characters, including at various times Kiwi the Clown, Truckie, Skates, Ronald McDonald, Jewels the Clown and Elsa from Disney's “Frozen.”

“This is the perfect way to ring in a joyful holiday season,” said Linda Traina, Des Plaines Park District superintendent of recreation.

The event is sponsored by the Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce, the park district and Frisbie Senior Center.

“In the spirit of the season, we will also have a food drive to benefit the Self Help Closet and Pantry of Des Plaines,” said Traina. In exchange for a donation, the Cumberland Café will give out coffee and hot chocolate.
