Alderman's former chief of staff pleads guilty
A Chicago alderman's former chief of staff has pleaded guilty to accepting a $7,500 bribe in exchange for helping to secure a letter from his boss supporting a liquor license.
Federal prosecutors say 63-year-old Curtis V. Thompson of Chicago entered the plea Thursday and admitted he used the money for personal expenses. Prosecutors say he received 75 $100 bills in a Christmas card at a holiday party. A plea agreement calls for a prison sentence of between 12 to 18 months.
The complaint and statements from the FBI and U.S. attorney's office don't name the alderman. But Alderman Howard B. Brookins previously confirmed to the Chicago Sun-Times that Thompson was his chief of staff.
Brookins hasn't been charged and has not been accused of wrongdoing.
