Vista Medical Center West honored for 75 years with AHA

Vista Medical Center West in Waukegan recently was recognized by the American Hospital Association in honor of its 75th anniversary of membership with the national health care organization.

Vista West opened its doors more than 85 years ago and today is a part of Vista Health System, which provides complete health care services throughout Lake County.

"The recognition of Vista Medical Center West by the AHA is a testament to Vista's commitment to provide excellent health care services in Lake County and southeast Wisconsin," said Barbara Martin, president and CEO of Vista Health System.

"We are proud to accept this distinction on behalf of the thousands of physicians, nurses, administrators and staff who have devoted themselves to patient care at Vista West over so many years."

In 1929, Vista Medical Center West, then known as St. Therese Hospital, was opened by the Missionary Sisters, Servants of the Holy Spirit and soon became the safety-net hospital for the poor.

During its history, Vista West has accomplished a number of "firsts" in Lake County, including an Intensive Care Unit, Inpatient Psychiatric Care Unit, Skilled Nursing Unit, a Comprehensive Rehabilitation Inpatient Unit and a designation as an area-wide Trauma Center in 1973.
